Appalachian State University 2015 Brewing Short Course (5-day) Jul 06 2015

The Fermentation Sciences program at Appalachian State University will offer a 5-day brewing short course in July 2015 intended for those working within the brewing industry or the advanced home brewer.

Course material is intended to provide the participant with information relevant to testing modules offered by the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) while engaging in thorough discussions around standard brewery operations. Participants will spend each morning in classroom discussions followed by an introduction to production-level sensory analysis. Afternoons will include hands-on coverage of laboratory skills and analysis, finishing the day with sensory sessions based on both major and obscure beer styles from around the world.

There will be hands-on brewing activities focused on recipe development and process control / monitoring. Laboratory sessions are hands-on and intended to provide training as well as an introduction to equipment and basic laboratory setup for a small- to medium-sized brewery.

All course material will be made available in digital format for attendees.

Cost: $1,620 early registration, $1,800 full-cost registration; includes lunch each day.

Funk Asheville Sour Beer Festival Jul 18 2015

Wicked Weed Brewing and Pints for Prostates present the 2nd Annual Funk Asheville: A Gathering of Wild and Sour Beers. The Festival is SOLD OUT.

Last year’s event was a phenomenal success, and one of the highlights of the 2014 Asheville Beer Week Festivities, and this year’s event promises to be bigger, better, and a whole lot Funkier.  Head Blender at Wicked Weed Brewing, Walt Dickinson says they want the event “to be a voice moving the conversation about sour beer forward in the Southeast. Funk Asheville’s goal is to bring breweries, who are dedicated to the craft of sour beer from all across the country into our own back yard to showcase the full potential of American barrel-aged sour and wild ales.”

Funk Asheville begins at 7pm, with a 6pm entry for VIP ticket holders. The event will take place in the wooded outdoor space at Wicked Weed’s new production brewery in Candler, NC, just a few miles from the original Wicked Weed Brew Pub and Funkatorium. General admission tickets are $80 (plus fees and NC tax) and VIP tickets are $100 (plus service fees and NC tax). Ale Share Beer Fest Jul 26 2015

Join Highland Brewing’s 1st annual beer festival where 100% of ticket-sale net proceeds will go to fund the Asheville Parks & Greenways Foundation. This is the same weekend that Bele Chere used to be heldand Highland plans on holding this beer festival on this Saturday each year in support of local community.
