BELMONT, N.C. – Beginning April 7, guests at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will be able to enjoy their favorite brew in the heart of the region’s largest and most popular botanical garden.
“Charlotte’s craft beer scene is booming and we believe by providing an authentic beer garden that we’re able to best
contribute to the experience of savoring and appreciating a favorite local brew,” said Jim Hoffman, the Garden’s chief operating officer. “We won’t be brewing beer here, but we hope to support the local industry and offer an experience you won’t necessarily find at your favorite brewery.”
The Beer Garden opens during North Carolina Beer Month and in conjunction with the Garden’s annual Spring Plant Sale. It will be open seasonally noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from April 7 through July 8 in addition to 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays from May 31 through Aug. 30. It will re-open for weekends in the fall Sept. 1 through Oct. 28.
While The Beer Garden will always carry a selection of local brews, the Garden will feature new and different offerings from local breweries, including free tastings from time to time. The Beer Garden will also feature live music during events and during its weekly Sip and Stroll event on Thursday evenings.
Located on the east side of the Garden, adjacent to the Orchid Conservatory and overlooking a broad expanse of the formal gardens, The Beer Garden features grassy lawns for picnicking and corn hole games. The patio provides space for small bands, tables for dining and benches and bar tops for quiet conversation. Nearby the Garden has established bar service beneath a shelter at the end of a majestic 150-foot-long pergola, covered with intriguing vines and foliage. The
space also has access for food trucks, which will be invited on a regular basis.
The Garden’s horticulture department is also preparing to integrate hops and other interesting plants associated with small-batch brewing into the space.
