I don’t think it will take us to space, but we’ve officially got a coolship! Coolships are neat because they help us increase efficiency, which means more beer more faster for you. It’s a big, flat, open-topped container that we put wort in to cool. Due to the high surface area, that wort gon’ cool real good. The mad scientists in charge of my livelihood have some pretty crazy ideas that you’re going to love, so stick around our social media pages to get hints of what’s to come.
We’ve got a big weekend coming up. It’s almost every green-friendly person’s favorite holiday, which means we get to celebrate Earth Day with a beer and charity. Those of you who liked our Apple Ale last year will be very pleased to get back in touch with it. This is a special small batch we’ve aged for a year to see how the flavors mature. As you know, Brett doesn’t die, it just changes, and in this case it’s only gotten better. We’ll be making donations in honor of Earth Day to the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association, a local conservation group that’s done a lot of work in raising awareness, accessibility, and community value of one of Durham’s iconic ecosystems. Come try it out the beer and charity stuff when we open the taproom on Earth Day, or as the Earthlings call it, Sunday. English is an odd language.
A bit sooner that that is the release of two new brews on Friday, the unofficial “Nothing To See Here” day. In honor of “I’m Just Holding It For a Friend” day we’ve got Diploid and Scuppernong. Diploid is the big brother of our Haploid session IPA, now with twice as many ‘loids. Sitting at 8% ABV this hazy IPA comes double dry-hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Motueka hops and boy is it smooth. Coming out alongside that is Scuppernong, a Brett Saison reminiscent of one of North Carolina’s most abundant grape varietals. Scuppernong is a small batch, which means that once we put it out, it’ll be going fast. Both of these beers will be releasing this Friday, 4/20 at 4pm in the taproom.
Quick shout-out to our favorite community of do-gooders, all of you! Thanks to our visitors last month, we were able to raise over $500 in donations to both the APS of Durham, and the Helius Foundation, the local organization that helps local entrepreneurs become small business owners. It’s always good for the heart to see how much people around us care.
One great way to get to know your caring neighbors is to share a meal with them. As always, we’ve got you. We’re putting on a Bull City Food Swap. Stop by the taproom Tuesday night starting at 7pm with one of your favorite dishes or treats and start talking to people. The way it works is that you can trade and barter with everyone else, using your food, in order to eat their food. It’s a great way to try new things and an even greater way to meet new people. Check out the event page at https://goo.gl/45drHE.
This Friday we’ve got R&J Wings & Things out for the dinner crowd. According to customers and other bartenders you wont’ be disappointed by either the Wings or the Things. Plus, they go great with new beer. Saturdayafternoon we’ve got The Heights Dominican back out from 5-8pm, which is something to be excited about. If you time it right, you can enjoy your food with some live music, as we’ll have JB Boxter playing at the taproom from 4-6pm.
We’ll be out and about this Saturday so come find us, or at least come leave us a note on the chalkboard while we’re out. We’ll have one of the Ryans repping us at the Battle of the Taps at Real McCoy’s Saturday afternoon, and the only Matt will be out at Maverick’s eating BBQ and hopefully telling people about our beer in between bites.
Love pinball but hate carrying change around? Love cheaper beer than usual? Hate Mondays? Prepare to change that tune. Every Monday at the taproom we are offering not only $1 off full pours of our beer, but also free pinball! Come get your game on, you’d be surprised what a couple pints can do for your high score.
Want to see where the magic happens? Every first and third Friday of the month we provide tours through groupon. Don’t worry, the people giving the tours know much more about the equipment and process than me. Get yours at http://gr.pn/2nW6x3E.
