In celebration of October and the season, we decided to share and celebrate the Märzen and Oktoberfest today with a variety of great NC beers in that style and encourage our viewers to go out and seek your own beer to celebrate the arrival of Fall!. Märzens had their origins in Europe where the beer was brewed in March according to a special recipe that would allow the beer to last while the brewing of new beer was forbidden between April and September. Those original beers were described as “dark brown, full-bodied, and bitter”. The beer was often kept in the cellar until served at the Oktoberfest celebration of the harvest. The seasonal Mecktoberfest out of The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is a great examples of this beer style: rich, malty and super smooth as are our other examples and others you can find made by great local NC brewers!
