In celebration of October and the season, we decided to share and celebrate a variety of pumpkin beers today with a variety of great NC beers in that style and encourage our viewers to go out and seek your own beer to celebrate the season! Often released as as fall seasonal ales, Pumpkin ales are very much varietal. Some brewers opt to add hand-cut pumpkins and drop them in the mash, while others use puree or pumpkin flavoring or just the pumpkin-related spices! Some of these brews tend to be spiced with pumpkin pie spices, like ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, or allspice. These ales are typically mild, with little to no bitterness, a malty backbone, with some spice often taking the lead. Some of today’s pumpkin beers are not ales at all but stouts, tripels and porters!
