Race kicks off NC Beer Month, welcomes 12 fellow breweries for postrace block party
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Foothills Brewing is once again kicking off NC Beer Month in style. In partnership with OrthoCarolina and Junction 311 Endurance Events, Foothills will hold the 2nd annual HopSwap Half Marathon/5K and Block Party on Saturday March 31st. Both races start at 8:30am, with the block party going until 2pm.
The races will start and end in front of Foothills’ pub on 4th Street in downtown Winston-Salem. More than 600 runners are expected – with each runner receiving a custom-designed bottle opener medal for finishing. Race registration is still open at hopswaphalf.com.
Awaiting runners after the race will be a huge block party on 4th Street with live music, food, local businesses and non-profits. The highlight of the party will be 13 craft breweries, all pouring beer to raise money and awareness for Yadkin Riverkeeper. The block party is free and open to the public.
Participating breweries include, from the local Triad, Foothills, Brown Truck, Four Saints, Joymongers, Preyer, Natty Greene’s, Hoots, Fiddlin’ Fish, and Wise Man; from Charlotte, Wooden Robot and Legion; and from Rocky Mount, Koi Pond. There’s even a South Carolina brewery taking part – Quest is coming all the way from Greenville.
The race is named for HopSwap, an NC Beer Month initiative started in 2016 by Foothills Brewing as a way to support small independent craft brewers in North Carolina. Foothills selects a brewery from each region of the state, then ‘swaps’ beer with those breweries. Those beers are then poured in each respective brewery’s tap rooms. It’s the only time all year Foothills has guest taps in its tasting room. Five of the HopSwap ‘alumni’ breweries will be in attendance at this year’s race.
