Weihnachtsmarkt Returns to The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery with Over 40 Vendors

OMB is the place to gather with friends, drink fresh beer, shop for gifts & celebrate the holiday season.

CHARLOTTE — The countdown to Christmas Market has begun! Now in its 6th year, The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s Weihnachtsmarkt is a Charlotte holiday tradition full of joy and community.

“Weihnachtsmarkt is one of our signature events that we celebrate throughout the month of December with pure beer and an open-air market that showcases local crafts and fresh baked goods,” says John Marrino, founder of OMB. “Our Biergarten is transformed into a festive and social experience. It’s a wonderful holiday tradition that takes place every December in towns throughout Germany, like Nuremburg, that attract people from around the world. We invite all Charlotteans to sip, shop and be merry. If you’re not merry when you get to Weihnachtsmarkt, you will be when you leave.”

Festivities begin on December 1st with a visit from Santa Claus (430p) and our annual tree lighting ceremony (sunset) hosted by the big man himself. 43 local vendors – some in traditional wooden huts – will set up shop as OMB’s Weihnachtsmarkt welcomes guests over three weekends: December 1-2; 8-9 and 15-16; on Fridays 4–9 pm and Saturdays 2-9 pm. The Brewery opens at 11 am and closes at 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

In addition to our normal beer menu, winter seasonal brews will be served fresh, including Dunkel and Yule Bock, as well as Glühwein (pron. “Gloo-vine”), a mulled red wine served hot and fresh. Dunkel is one of OMB’s most popular seasonals. A smooth, Munich-style dark larger with caramel and roasted malt flavors courtesy of Dark Munich and Carafa malts, Dunkel offers an easy-drinking finish to even the coldest, darkest days of winter. Yule Bock is an authentic “Weihnachtsbock” (Christmas Bock) — a really fantastic traditional German holiday beer style. Premium European barley malts and noble hops give this bock lager its rich amber color and smooth malty character. In past years, Yule Bock has run out before the end of Weihnachtsmarkt, so try it while you can!

Want to avoid the crowds, but still enjoy a festive holiday experience? The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s new taproom space is a much cozier cousin to our main Brauhaus. It is the perfect room to escape at OMB. If you haven’t visited it yet, it’s worth the trip. The Brewery also gets decked-out in decorations the week of Thanksgiving. Expect lights, wreaths, trees, ornaments and more.

Founded in 2009 in Charlotte, NC, The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery believes in delivering fresh, local beer and adhering to Germany’s oldest beer purity guideline, known as the “Reinheitsgebot”. Five beers are available year-round and at least eight others make seasonal and holiday appearances — always delivered in refrigerated trucks to preserve freshness and meet the demands of ultra-premium beer consumers. OMB is one of only nine craft breweries included on the Inc. 5000 list, and the only one in North Carolina. The Brewery has received numerous national and international medals in North America and Europe. OMB was also named Best Brewery Tour in the country by the readers of USA Today, and receives many accolades for its multi-acre Munich-inspired Biergarten, which seats over 1,000.
