Sweet Josie Wins Bronze Medal for English-Style Brown Ale at World Beer Cup
Raleigh, N.C., May 3, 2018 — Lonerider Brewing Company, an independent craft brewery that prides itself on developing ales for outlaws from Philadelphia, PA to Mobile, AL, brought home a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup Thursday in Category 78: English-style Brown Ale for their year-round staple Sweet Josie.
The medals awarded at the Bi-Annual World Beer Cup are the most prestigious in the world. A 295-judge panel evaluated more than 8,200 beers from 66 countries over 3 days at the Craft Brewers’ Convention in Nashville, TN. The judges’ goal is to select the best three submissions in each category. If a category does not have at least three submissions that meet the judges’ standards, the category will not receive all possible medals. Of the judges this year, seventy-two percent (72%) were from outside the United States.
Sweet Josie has had a long history of bringing awards back to Raleigh, NC. “Sweet Josie brought home the first Gold Medal ever to Raleigh from the Great American Beer Fest,” recounts Sumit Vohra, Lonerider’s CEO. “From being a home brew recipe to proving herself again on the World Beer Cup stage, she continues to show why she is one of the best brown ales around. This also shows the dedication our brewing team gives to all our beers.”
Beer enthusiasts will note that this is the eighth award for Sweet Josie, previously winning gold at the Great American Beer Fest in 2010 and Bronze at the U.S. Open Beer Championship in 2017, 2013, and 2011, among others.
